John Edwards Proposes Mandatory Military Service For All Americans
“One of the things we ought to be thinking about is some level of mandatory service to our country, so that everybody in America — not just the poor kids who get sent to war — are serving this country.”
- John “$400 haircut” Edwards
I find it fascinating that a man who has spent $400 on a haircut on more than one occasion can have the guile to say he is the poor mans candidate. Could that money not have been spent better elsewhere? Maybe it could have been sent to, I don’t know, a charity that helps the poor? Or something? Anything but a freakin’ haircut!!! Hell, it would have been spent better on his campaign.
So now he proposes mandatory military service for all Americans. Americans who supposedly live in the most free country on this earth. I wonder if slavery is one of the requirements of a free country. After all, forcing someone to work for you — whether you have the guns of government behind you or not — is still slavery.
I wonder if Edwards and his buddies in congress are included in this mandatory service. Or are they too good? Maybe their congressional experience counts as service? And what about their families? I’m sure they will be exempt. If not, they will probably get a nice comfy job behind a desk somewhere. And guess what? It will still be the poor kids out there fighting the battles. Please people, don’t buy into this crap. If you want to keep any semblance of freedom in this country — and trust me, there is not much of it left to loose after Bush Jr’s decimation of the constitution — then please do not support this guy.

Relax. It’s just a tactic to scare the average voter into using some common sense. Would people be so quick to support war happy, war profiteering Republicans if there was a draft? If they or their children could be taken away and sent to whatever pointless war the Republicans decide to throw away our boys’ lives on?
No. Suddenly, every American would start to look a LOT more closely at every foreign policy decision and think far more about diplomacy. If we all valued the lives of our soldiers as we do our own because WE could become a soldier against our will at any point in time if the government says so, we would think long and hard before voting for any “Bring ‘em on!” types of assholes.
Also, for the record, it was a $200 hair cut, not a $400 haircut. And of course hes’ going to have it maintained, though not at $200 each time!
Some perspective: Look.. the man is running for president. He can use all the style points and advantages he can get. He’s running for the position of leader of the free world, not the local PTA chapter. In this vapid, youth obsessed, MTV, plastic society, far more import is given to looks rather than substance. It’s worth a $200 haircut if that one small bonus gives you the edge over the competition and you get to be president.

I agree with Morpheus X.
Relax, Edwards is a good man, and I doubt he really wants a mandatory draft. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a bit of sarcasm in what he said as well.
