Bob Barr Puts Out Seven Minute Attack Ad
Bob Barr’s campaign has recently released a campaign ad for his presidential bid:
Watching the whole video reveals that Barr is nothing more than a typical politician. Take, for instance, the fact that he uses more than half of this seven minute opportunity to attack his opponents. The rest of the time is spent spewing buzzwords like ‘freedom’ and ‘liberty’ without giving anything to back those claims up. It seems to remind me of something another candidate has been criticized for doing with the word ‘change’.
He could of used the time to get out the libertarian message by explaining some of his proposals and how they will help fix the country’s problems, but he instead chooses the lesser road and attacks his opponents. Thanks Bob for your role in turning the LP into another typical political party with your prototypical political blather. I used to expect better from the Libertarian Party, but not anymore.

I agree. Ron Paul lost my interest over time because he did not mention specific laws that needed to be overturned, complete with advice to followers on how to do their own pro se challenges in federal court.
An example of something Barr could publicly go after is Internet regulation like the IMBRA law that forces Americans to be background checked if they want to meet a foreigner on an internationally oriented dating website.
Bet you didn’t know about that law. Bet you also did not know that a Bush appointee federal judge, Thomas Rose, said on May 26th 2006 in order to deny a restraining order on the law “There is no fundamental liberty interest in an American contacting a foreigner”.
A good libertarian would have a “Outrageous Law of the Week” to have a press release about.

I agree that IMBRA is an intrusive and dangerous law. This law requires people to be “frisked and finger-printed”, and get written permission, before being allowed to say “hi” to someone in an international personals column. This is ridiculous!
I don’t believe the American people want their government telling people how and where they can look for love, nor do they want a government that polices the personals columns. Government has no right to pick our friends, tell us with whom we can communicate, and approve or disapprove our marriage choices. It is OUR lives and OUR choice! The International Marriage Broker Act sanctions communication with non-U.S. residents for friendship and romance. It is the epitome of a Big Brother law and needs to be seriously modified or done away with.
If someone living in El Paso, TX wants to meet a lady in Juarez, and finds a column that introduces eligible singles in Mexico, he should be free to use it without government censorship and the threat of being denied the freedom to marry whom he chooses.

I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries but I can’t bring myself to vote for Barr. Like you said, if only Libertarians spent more time explaining to Americans how smaller government could work, instead of how big government is bad, they would get much more support.
